Keith W. Perkins

Keith W. Perkins is a professor emeritus of Church History and Doctrine at Brigham Young University. He also served as chair of the Department of Church History and Doctrine.

He wrote and published on the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during the Kirtland, Ohio, period. He worked with Ezra Taft Benson, Gordon B. Hinckley, and Thomas S. Monson in developing the Church’s visitor’s center and other properties and programs in Kirtland.

Perkins was born on in Phoenix, Arizona. He held both a master’s degree and PhD in Church History and Doctrine from BYU. He earned his bachelor’s degree in history education from Arizona State University. Before joining the BYU faculty in 1975, he taught Seminary and Institute.

Perkins and his wife, Vella, are the parents of four children.
