John B. Dickson

John B. Dickson is a General Authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was called as a member of the Second Quorum of the Seventy on June 6, 1992, and served in that quorum until April 1, 1995, when he was sustained as a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy. He was given emeritus status on October 5, 2013.

Dickson was born on July 12, 1943, in Tacoma, Washington, and later reared in Arlington, Washington. After receiving his mission call to labor in the Mexico, he was diagnosed with bone cancer in his right arm. Doctors expected him to live only about one month more, but ten months later, and after the amputation of his arm, he departed for his mission. “Losing my arm has proved to be one of the greater blessings in my life,” he said. “I am more patient with other people because I have had to be patient with myself.”[1]

After his mission service, he married Delores Jones in the Oakland California Temple and earned a degree from Brigham Young University and worked in his family’s sawmill operation. Prior to his call as a General Authority, he presided over the Mexico City North Mission (1978–1981) and served as stake president in Mt. Vernon, Washington.

He and his wife are the parents of seven daughters and one son.
