Jan E. Newman was sustained as second counselor in the Sunday School general presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 6, 2019.

Newman was born on April 16, 1960, in Jerome, Idaho, and was reared in Overton, Nevada. Considering the possibility of becoming a French teacher, he earned his bachelor’s degree in French from Brigham Young University. He embarked on a career in the software industry, founding several successful software companies.

He and his wife, Lucia Price, are the parents of six children. He has served in the Church of Jesus Christ as a bishop, Young Men president, stake president, Scoutmaster, and temple worker. He presided over the Nebraska Omaha Mission from 2006 to 2009. As a young man, he served a full-time mission in the Belgium Brussels Mission.
