Barbara Summers Edwards: Mormon Artist
Barbara Summers Edwards is a fine art oil and watercolor painter. She earned her bachelor’s degree in illustration from the Utah State University.
Barbara began her career as a freelance illustrator and evolved into her figurative imageries and realistic paintings. She has exhibited in international, national, state, regional exhibits. Two of her paintings were purchased by the Utah Arts Council and remain in the state’s permanent collection. One of the paintings hangs in the governor’s mansion.
She was awarded Signature Member status by the Oil Painters of America board of directors. She has received numerous awards for her work, including Best of Show in the 2010 American Plains Artists 26th Annual Juried Exhibit, Juror’s Choice Award at the 2009 National Paint the Parks Show and Competition, National Award of Excellence and Regional Award of Excellence from the Oil Painters of America national and Regional Exhibits, Award of Excellence from the Utah Watercolor Society, and First Place Painting Award from Intermountain Society of Artists.
Her painting “When I was a Child” was published in the North Light Book, The Best of Portrait Painting.
Barbara was born and raised in Southeastern Idaho. She is married to artist Glen Edwards. She is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She has participated in “We Three,” a three woman show with fellow Latter-day Saint artists, Dilleen Marsh and Roxane Pfister, whom she has been friends with for over forty years.
