Paul H. Thompson

Paul H. Thompson became the 17th president of Weber College, shortly before it became Weber State University on January 1, 1991. He served until 2002.

Thompson was born and raised in Warren, Utah, and attended Weber from 1957 to 1958. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah in 1964. He earned both his master’s and doctorate degrees from the Harvard Graduate School of Business. From 1969 to 1973, he was an assistant professor at the Harvard Business School.

Before presiding over Weber State, he was Vice President of Development and University Relations at Brigham Young University. He had also been the dean of the Marriott School of Management at BYU from 1984 to 1989, a professor of organizational behavior, chairman of the Department of Organizational Behavior, and assistant dean of the Graduate School of Management.

He has served on the Utah Valley University Board of Trustees since 2017.

Thompson presided over the Massachusetts Boston Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 2003 to 2006. He and his wife, Carolyn, have six children.
