Plans to build the Lethbridge Alberta Temple were announced by President Russell M. Nelson in his closing remarks at the 193rd Annual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

This will be Canada’s 10th temple. Lethbridge, which is home to around 100,000 people, is found near the southern border of the western Canadian province of Alberta. Canada is home to more than 200,000 Latter-day Saints in over 490 congregations. [1]

Location

The Lethbridge Alberta Temple will be the fourth house of the Lord in the province of Alberta. This temple will be built on more than nine acres located at the corner of Whoop Up Drive West and Mauretania Road West, Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. Plans call for a multistory temple of approximately 45,000 square feet and an accompanying distribution center.

The Church announced that preliminary work would begin on the site in the week of October 14, 2024. Approvals from the city allow the Church to initiate some preparatory work on the site. The first steps involve preliminary utility and grading work, including running electricity to the site and installing water and sewer lines. Then, Mauretania Road will need to be repaired in the places where connections were made to the city’s underground utilities. Workers will also be removing excess soil from the site. The goal is to complete this work before cold winter weather arrives.[2]

The design work on the temple is ongoing, and a date for an official groundbreaking ceremony has not been announced yet.
