Lehonti
Readers of the Book of Mormon learn about Lehonti in Alma 47. As a Lamanite commander, he leads a group of dissenters who oppose the king's insistence that his people go to battle against the Nephites. Lehonti refuses to come down off the Mount Antipas where he has secluded his army to meet with Amalickiah. Amalickiah goes up the mount, almost to Lehonti's camp, and persuades Lehonti to believe that Amalickiah will deliver up his army to Lehonti if Lehonti will make him second in command of the combined Lamanite army. Lehonti agrees.
Amalickiah is aware of the Lamanite custom to appoint the second in command the leader, should the leader die. Consequently, Amalickiah has his servant slowly poison Lehonti. When he died, Amalickiah gained his objective to be over the armies of the king, and uses his position to kill the king and become the ruler.[1]
