Kerry Muhlestein

Kerry Muhlestein is a religion professor at Brigham Young University. He holds a PhD in Egyptology from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Muhlestein earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology with a Hebrew minor from Brigham Young University where he also earned a master’s degree in Ancient Near Eastern Studies. As an undergraduate he studied in the intensive Hebrew program at the BYU Jerusalem Center for Near Eastern Studies. He also taught courses in Hebrew and religion part time at both BYU and the UVSC Extension Center. He also taught history at Cal Poly Pomona and UCLA and early morning seminary and religion at the Westwood (UCLA) Institute of Religion.

He taught religion and history at BYU-Hawaii before joining the faculty at BYU. Muhlestein is the author of several chapters and articles. He has edited The Gospel of Jesus Christ in the Old Testament and Prophets and Prophecies of the Old Testament.

He has served as the chairman of a national committee for the American Research Center in Egypt and serves on their Research Supporting Member Council. He has also served on a committee for the Society for the Study of Egyptian Antiquities, and currently serves on their Board of Trustees and as a Vice President of the organization. He is involved with the International Association of Egyptologists and has worked with Educational Testing Services on their AP World History exam.

Muhlestein and his wife, Julianne, are the parents of six children.
