Hugh W. Pinnock

Hugh W. Pinnock was a General Authority and emeritus member of the First Quorum of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He was born on January 15, 1934, in Salt Lake City. He was student body president his senior year at Granite High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in management from the College of Business at the University of Utah, where he was also the student body president.

He had received the ROTC citizenship award in 1957 and 1958, and after he graduated from the U, he accepted an officer’s commission with the U.S. Army and served as a captain in the U.S. Army Reserve.

Prior to devoting his full time to his calling as General Authority, he worked in the life insurance business and was a general agent for Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance. He was a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table. Pinnock was also one of the founders and board members of a leather goods company. He also served on the Granite School District Board of Education and was chairman of the reelection campaign of U.S. Senator Wallace F. Bennett in 1968.

He served in the LDS Church as stake high councilor, bishop, and president of the Pennsylvania Mission from 1973 to 1976. He was the only Sunday School general president to have served two nonconsecutive terms (1979–1986, 1989–1992). He was managing director of the Priesthood Department and regional representative. He also served in the Presidency of the Seventy from 1986 to 1989.

He and his wife, Anne, were the parents of six children. He died on December 15, 2000.
