David R. Stone

David R. Stone was a General Authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the Second Quorum of the Seventy from 1999 to 2006.

He was born on June 16, 1936, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and grew up in Argentina. His parents divorced when he was ten years old, and during his teen years he lived in a boarding school and spent summers on a cattle ranch near Córdoba. When his mother joined the Church in 1951, she moved the family to Provo, Utah, so that her children could attend Brigham Young University. He recalled his own conversion at age 18, after investigating the Church. In Provo, a doctor at the health center asked him how long he had been investigating and he replied it had been two or three years. The doctor said, “If you don’t make decisions in time, time makes decisions for you.”[1]. This prompted him to pray for an answer and six weeks later he was baptized.

Stone earned a bachelor’s degree in English and economics. He first worked for the Proctor & Gamble company in Ohio, and then the Gillette Company in Argentina and worked throughout the world. From 1986 to 1994 he worked for Black & Decker.

He has served in the Church in several bishoprics, as stake Young Men president, stake Sunday School president, high councilor, member of a stake presidency, and as a regional representative. Soon after his conversion he served as a missionary in the Spanish American Mission. He was presiding over the Dominican Republic Santo Doming West Mission at the time of his call to the Seventy.

He and his wife, Rosalie, were the parents of six children. He passed away on October 4, 2014.
