Andrew Hall is an associate professor of Japanese history at Kyushu University in Fukuoka, Japan, and writes on the state of the publishing field for LDS authors. He is the author of “Dawning of a Brighter Day,” a review blog for the Association of Mormon Letters.

Hall earned his bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University where he became interested in Mormon literature through a course taught by Eugene England. He stayed connected with the Association for Mormon Letters via email discussion while he completed his graduate degrees in Japanese colonial education history at the University of Pittsburgh. He taught history at the University of North Texas before joining the faculty of Kyushu University in 2010.

His blog for “Dawning of a Brighter Day” updates readers on the best reviewed and bestselling Mormon-authored fiction in both Mormon and national markets. In 2011 he received an Association for Mormon Letters Special Award for Literary Journalism. In 2014, he was honored with an Outstanding Achievement Award from the Whitney Awards.

Hall and his wife, Jenifer, have four children, all of them bilingual in Japanese and English. He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
