Niklas Arrhenius

Niklas Arrhenius is an athlete who has competed in track and field throwing events, most often in the discus throw and shot put. He placed second in discus at the World Junior Championships in 2000 and fourth at the European Junior Championships in 2001. He placed eighth in the shot put at the European Indoor Championships. He competed in discus for Sweden at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. He finished in 32nd place.

Arrhenius was born on September 10, 1982, in Provo, Utah. He was the National High School record holder for the discus for eight years. He is the son of Anders Arrhenius who was a professional shot put competitor in Sweden. Niklas holds dual citizenship in Sweden and the United States. His brothers Dan and Leif are also throwing competitors.

He completed both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in exercise science at Brigham Young University. He also competed at BYU from 2003 to 2008 where he was a four-time Mountain West Conference champion in the discus, a two-time MWC champion in the shot put, and won the NCAA championship in the discus. He was also All-American three times for discus and once for shot put.

As track and field assistant coach at BYU, he coaches throws for the men’s and women’s track and field teams. He has also worked as a voluntary assistant coach for the Utah Valley University track and field. He also coached two Great West Conference champions.

Arrhenius is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a full-time mission to Sweden.
