Valence Maetani’s first novel, Ink and Ashes, is the winner of the 2013 Tu Books New Visions Award and is a 2015 Junior Library Guild selection. Her book was selected as the 2015 best fiction book in the Salt Lake City Weekly’s Best of Utah Arts Award. She won the 2015 Whitney Award for best novel by a new author. She is a member of the We Need Diverse Books team.
She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and was a project manager and developed educational software for children with learning disabilities.
Maetani is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
