Rex D. Pinegar
Rex D. Pinegar was sustained as a General Authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on October 6, 1972, and was given emeritus status on October 6, 2001.
He was first called to serve in the First Council of the Seventy. When that council was reformed into the First Quorum of the Seventy, Pinegar was called to serve in that quorum. He also served in the Presidency of the Seventy from 1989 to 1995, serving the last two years as the senior president of the presidency.
Pinegar was born on September 18, 1931, in Orem, Utah, and was raised in Spanish Fork. After service in the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1954, he married Bonnie Lee Crabb. They eventually became the parents of six children. She passed away on February 6, 2021.
He earned his bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University, his master’s degree from San Francisco State College, and his doctorate in education from the University of Southern California. In 1967 he joined the faculty at BYU and became the chairman of the educational psychology department in the College of Education.
Pinegar has served in various additional callings, including stake missionary, Seminary and Institute teacher, stake YMMIA president, general board member of the Deseret Sunday School Union, and counselor in the Young Men general presidency. He also served as president of the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple (2002–2005) and president of the North Carolina-Virginia Mission (1971–1974).
Pinegar passed away on June 24, 2021.
