Families consist of a father, a mother, and children. With the proper priesthood authority, a man and a woman can be sealed together in temples for time and eternity, not just till death do they part. Children born into a marriage sealed with this priesthood power are eligible for eternal bonds to their parents.

Families are the foundation of society and for the Church. The Proclamation on the Family says that "Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities."

The father is to provide for the family and preside in love and righteousness. The mother's primary responsibility is the raising and nuturing of children.
