Beverly Campbell: Mormon Spokesperson
Beverly Brough Campbell is a former director of international affairs for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a leader on women’s issues.
She served for twelve years as a director of international affairs for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she worked with ambassadors and other leaders in Washington, DC, and at the United Nations to open doors of understanding and access for the Church throughout the world. She addressed diverse challenges such as child survival, breast cancer, drunk driving, media, and interfaith cooperation. During the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) movement (1972–1979), Campbell became an advocate for equality but not sameness and was asked to be a spokesperson for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, of which she is a member. As a spokesperson for the Church on the ERA and other issues, she participated in hundreds of television and radio interviews.
As director of community relations for Special Olympics, Inc., she played a major role in the creation and development of the Special Olympics programs. She has served on numerous civic and government boards. She authored the bestselling book Eve and the Choice Made in Eden (2003) and its sequel Eve and the Mortal Journey (2005).
She was awarded the prestigious Presidential Medallion from [Brigham Young University] for her contributions and outstanding service. She attended BYU in the late 1950s.
She and her husband, A. Pierce Campbell, are the parents of three children and grandparents of six. After living thirty-plus years in the Washington, DC, area, they retired to Arizona. He died in 2009.
