Nick Howell Mormon Coach

Nick Howell was part of the Brigham Young University coaching staff that went with Bronco Mendenhall when he took the head coach position at the University of Virginia. He was BYU defensive coordinator and secondary coach from 2013 until his departure at the end of 2015. He continues at Virginia in the same coaching position.

Howell was defensive line coach at Sky View High School in Smithfield, Utah, in 2002. In 2003, he was defensive coordinator at Weber High in North Ogden and then head coach at Ben Lomond High in Ogden from 2004 to 2006. He came to BYU in 2007 as a defensive intern. From 2008 to 2009 Howell was a defensive graduate assistant. His first full-time position on Mendenhall’s staff came in 2010 when he was the outside linebacker coach. From 2011 to 2012 he was the secondary coach and a special teams coach.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in history from Weber State University and his master’s in education with a teaching certificate from the University of Phoenix.

Howell is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission to Brazil. He and his wife, Brooke, are the parents of four children.
