Lily Toy Hong Mormon Illustrator

Lily Toy Hong is a children’s book author and illustrator. Her works include Two of Everything, How the Ox Star Fell from Heaven, The Empress and the Silkworm, and Marco Polo and Kublai Khan: A Great Friendship. She illustrated Little Celebrations: Mr. Sun and Mrs. Sea.

She grew up in a large Chinese-American family and lived most of her life in Salt Lake City, Utah. She studied at the University of Utah and the Utah Technical College, then finished her education at Utah State University, where she obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. After her graduation, she spent three years in Missouri working for Hallmark Cards. She designed children’s bed linens while at Hallmark and produced by Fieldcrest and Cannon.

She is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a full-time mission in Taiwan.

She and her husband, Kellen Hatch, are the parents of one child.
