Jacqui Larsen: Mormon Artist
Jacqui Biggs Larsen is an postmodernist artist whose work features a complex combination of collage, montage, assemblage, drawing, and painting. She explores the complexity of women’s lives and her life, in particular.
Larsen began painting while a teenager in Syracuse, New York. She earned her Master of Fine Art degree from Brigham Young University. Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States and she has participated in several major exhibitions including Women Beyond Borders, Art Equinox, Metaphorically Speaking, Ancient Fragments in a New Light, and Rearranging the Landscape. She is the recipient of numerous awards and fellowships (including two Utah Visual Arts Fellowships, 1996 and 2006, and an artist’s residency fellowship from The Anderson Center in Red Wing, Minnesota), and her work was selected to represent Utah in The De-Constructed West, a four-state fellowship exhibition at the Millennium Arts Center in Washington, DC. In 2009, her work was included in an exhibit in the Harris Fine Arts Center at BYU, which was centered around art professor Hagen Haltern and his students.
Her work has appeared in a number of literary journals, as well as on the covers of three University of Tampa poetry collections by her husband, Lance Larsen, Poet Laureate of Utah (2012–2017).
She is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
