Ann Stoddard Reese served as second counselor to Relief Society general President Barbara B. Smith from October 1983 to April 7, 1984, when Smith and her presidency were released. She had served on the Relief Society general board for almost thirteen years. Her mother, Blanche Stoddard, served on the general board for almost twenty-five years.
Reese was born in LeGrande, Oregon. Her father later moved the family to Utah and started a lumber business in the Uinta Mountains. Reese and her husband, Lester, are the parents of three children.
