Ruth Muir Gardner was a lyricist and composer of many hymns known to members of The Church of Jesus of Latter-day Saints.

She wrote the words to the well-loved song “Families Can Be Together Forever,” She also wrote “I Believe in Being Honest,” “To Be a Pioneer,” “We Welcome You,” and “Go the Second Mile.” She also wrote Go Forth with Faith” (#263), which is included in the 1985 Hymns of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her husband Lyall composed this hymn.

Ruth was born on June 7, 1927. She died on September 1, 1999. She and her husband were the parents of four children.
