John M. Chamberlain was a composer, pianist, and musician. He was also a partner in a few music firms before he founded the Chamberlain Music Company. He was also a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for many years.

Chamberlain led a ward choir in Salt Lake and served as an organist in the Old Tabernacle in Salt Lake City. He composed “We Are Marching on to Glory” (#225), which is in the 1985 Hymns of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He also composed other hymns.

Chamberlain was born on May 27, 1844, in Leicester, England, and immigrated with his parents to Utah Territory in 1852. He passed away on May 5, 1930.
