Stephen A. West was a General Authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in the Second Quorum of the Seventy from 1998 to 2004.

West was born on March 23, 1935, in Salt Lake City. He earned his bachelor’s degree in philosophy and a juris doctorate degree from the University of Utah. He clerked for federal district judge A. Sherman Christensen and then worked in a law firm in Salt Lake City before moving to Washington, DC. A year later he began working for the Marriott Corporation in Maryland. He served on the advisory boards of Southern Virginia University and Utah State University, and served on the Leadership Council of the Brigham Young University Museum of Art.

He has served as a bishop, bishop’s counselor, high councilor, patriarch, sealer in the Washington, DC Temple, counselor in a branch presidency, Seminary teacher, and president of the Texas San Antonio Mission. As a young man he served as a missionary in the Northwestern States Mission.

He and his wife, Martha, were the parents of three children. He died on March 10, 2016.
