Larry M. Gibson
Larry M. Gibson was called as first counselor in the Young Men's General Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (sometimes called the Mormon Church) in April 2009 and served until his release in April 2015.
He was born on February 26, 1947, in Boulder City, Nevada, to Robert Owen and Thais Miner Gibson. Elder Gibson was serving as a Stake President at the time of his call. He has served as a bishop, stake high councilor, and ward and stake Young Men's President. His professional career has been in the technology sector where he worked as vice president and chief information officer of Henry Schein, Inc., a Fortune 500 company. He received a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in computer science and information science from Brigham Young University. He married Shirley Barton on Sept. 6, 1968, in the Manti Utah Temple. [1] He and his wife Shirley have six children and 31 grandchildren (as of 2006). [2]
He currently serves on the Executive Committee and Board as V.P. of the Western Region of the Boy Scouts of America, and as the President of the Utah National Parks Council of Boy Scouts of America. He has served on various boards and committees in the corporate and academic world. His other interests include scuba diving, skiing, motorcycling, hot air ballooning, and any activity that includes his sweetheart or grandchildren. [3]
