Nolan Archibald: Mormon Businessman

Nolan D. Archibald is a retired business executive and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He served as the chairman of the Black & Decker Corporation from 1987 to 2010. He was the company’s Chief Executive Officer from 1987 to 2010, president from 1985 to 2010, Chief Operating Officer from 1985 to 1986. Beatrice Companies was his employer from 1977 to 1985, where he held various management positions, including These corporate senior vice president and president of Beatrice’s Consumer Durables Group. He also worked in various executive positions with Conroy, Stiffel Lamp, and Del Mar Window Coverings. Forbes distinguished him as one of the United States’ ten most wanted executives and Business Week listed him as of one of the top six managers in U.S. business.

Archibald is vice chairman of the board of directors of Huntsman Corporation and Lockheed Martin Corporation. He is a recipient of the American Marketing Association's Edison Achievement Award for significant and lasting contributions to marketing excellence and product innovation.

Archibald was born in Ogden, Utah on June 22, 1943. He graduated from Dixie Junior College and earned a bachelor’s degree from Weber State University. He earned his MBA from Harvard in 1970. While in college, he was an All-American and All-Conference basketball player. He was also named an Academic All-American. The National Association of Basketball Coaches honored him as a member of their Silver Anniversary NCAA All-America Basketball Team. After his graduation from Harvard, he was invited to try out for the NBA Chicago Bulls and was offered a contract with the ABA Pittsburgh Pipers.

From April 2007 to May 2013, he served in the Church of Jesus Christ as an Area Seventy. He and his wife, Margaret, are the parents of seven sons and one daughter.
