Greg Kite: Mormon Athlete

Gregory Fuller Kite is a retired professional basketball player. He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He was born August 5, 1961, in Houston, Texas. He played center in college basketball at Brigham Young University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology. He did graduate work in the same field. The Boston Celtics selected him in the 1983 NBA draft as the 21st pick overall. During his seasons with the Celtics, he played in four NBA finals and won two championship rings (1984 and 1986). The team waived him in 1988. Before retiring in 1995, he played for the Los Angeles Clippers (1988–1989), the Charlotte Hornets (1989), the Sacramento Kings (1989–1990), the Orlando Magic (1990–1994), the New York Knicks (1995), and the Indiana Pacers (1995). In 1997, he was hired as an assistant basketball coach at BYU on an interim basis.

Kite has operated Greg Kite Basketball Camps for many years. He was named the Commissioner of the Florida Basketball Association in 2012. He has served as the Chief Marketing Officer of Global Asset Management Group and has served as the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of The Gift of Learning Foundation. He and his wife, Jenny, founded Pathways School, a private school in Orlando. The Kites have ten children.
