Karl Engemann

Karl Engemann is a record executive and entertainment personal manager. He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Engemann was born on August 3, 1930, in Detroit, Michigan. He served in the US Army from 1951 to 1953, then went on to obtain a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Brigham Young University in 1958.

He turned down a business alliance with good friend Jon M. Huntsman, Sr. to pursue a career in the music industry. He was hired at Warner Brothers in 1958 as a records producer and produced the first two top ten single records for the label. In 1960 he moved on to Capitol Records as a producer and moved up the ranks to director of business affairs, Artist and Repertoire general manager, and A&R vice president.

After ten years with Capitol, he co-ventured independent MGM South Records. He also partnered with his brother Bob Engemann of The Lettermen and nephew John Hess to form Independent Recorders Studios, which they later sold.

From 1976 to 2009, he managed members of the Osmond family, staying with Marie for close to thirty-five years. He has also managed the careers of his family members, including his son-in-law Larry King and children Shawn Southwick King, Shannon Engemann, Ryan Engemann, and Bret Engemann. He and his wife, Gerri, live in Utah.
