Lorraine Henriod: Mormon Author

Mary Lorraine Stephens Henriod was a writer, undeterred by the onset of multiple sclerosis at the age of thirty-nine. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She was born on May 12, 1925, in Salt Lake City. During high school she won prizes for her writing. She began her studies at the University of Utah at the age of seventeen and soon was associate editor of the Chronicle. She was a reporter at the Deseret News until she began bearing children. She and her husband, Joe, were parents of six children.

She published several children’s books while wheelchair bound, including Grandma’s Wheelchair, Ancestor Hunting, Special Olympics and the Paralympics, The Rock Hunters, I Know a Newspaper Reporter, Marie Curie, I Know a Grocer, Peter and the Desert, I Know a Zoo Keeper, and I Know a Postman. She died on March 19, 2014.
