Mark Ormsby

Mark J. Ormsby is a rugby player, coach, and referee. He is an administrative assistant for the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Brigham Young University. He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Ormsby was born in 1960 in Tauranga, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand. He was raised on a farm where he helped raise cattle, milk 150 Jersey cows, and care for a flock of 300 sheep. He started playing rugby at a young age. He played rugby and track before heading to college.

He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business from BYU, where he played both football and rugby.

He coached rugby as the head coach from September 1989 to April 1990. He coached again from 1996 to 2001. He served as president of the Utah Rugby Union. He was awarded the annual Matt Brown Award, which honors BYU rugby alumni and boosters who support and promote the game.
