Susan Arrington Madsen: Mormon Author

Susan Arrington Madsen is the author of several books related to the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, of which she is a member. Her titles include I Walked to Zion: True Stories of Young Pioneers on the Mormon Trail; I Sailed to Zion: True Stories of Young Pioneers Who Crossed the Ocean; Growing Up in Zion: True Stories of Young Pioneers Building the Kingdom; The Lord Needed a Prophet; The Second Rescue: The Story of the Spiritual Rescue of the Willie and Martin Handcart Pioneers; and Christmas: A Joyful Heritage.

With her father, Leonard J. Arrington, and and her daughter Emily Madsen Jones, she wrote Mothers of the Prophets. She and her father wrote Sun-Bonnet Sisters: True Stories of Mormon Women and Frontier Life (her first book). She also wrote Hard-Won Wisdom: Advice for a Richer Life from the Greatest Generation (with Ruth Harris Swaner) and Pioneer Christmas: Excerpts from Personal Journals (with Leslie Duke).

Madsen was raised primarily in Logan, Utah, but also lived in Pasadena and Pacific Palisades, California, Italy, and Salt Lake City. She graduated from Utah State University in 1975.

She and her husband, Dean, are the parents of four daughters and live in Hyde Park, Utah. Their son died in his infancy.
