Susan Howe: Mormon Poet

Susan Elizabeth Howe is a poet, playwright, and professor of creative writing. Her poems have appeared in The New Yorker, Southwest Review, Prairie Schooner, Shenandoah, Sunstone, Kansas Quarterly, and other journals. Her collection of poetry, Stone Spirits (1997), won the Charles Redd Center Publication Prize in 1997 and the Association for Mormon Letters Award in poetry. She contributed to Discoveries: Two Centuries of Poems by Mormon Women.

She has been an editor of Exponent II, The Denver Quarterly, and Dialogue: A Journal of Mormon Thought.

She earned her bachelor’s degree fin Spanish (minor in French) from Brigham Young University, her master’s in creative writing from the University of Utah, and her PhD from Denver University.

Howe lives in Ephraim, Utah, with her husband, Cless Young.
