Joy Monahan Mormon Athlete

Joy Magelssen Monahan is a professional surfer and world champion. She won the 2008 Association of Surfing Professionals Women’s World Long board competition in La Côtes des Basques in Biarritz, France. She was the first Hawaiian to win the title. Her father taught her how to surf and she has been competing since the age of thirteen.

Monahan earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Brigham Young University in 2011. She and her husband live in Hawaii, where she was reared. She is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her “I’m a Mormon” video has been viewed over one million times.
