Charlie Stubbs
Charlie Stubbs is a retired high school and collegiate football coach.[1] He served as athletic director at Oceanside Collegiate Academy from 2016 to 2020.[2]
After serving as head coach at Nicholls State from 2010 to 2014, he left for health reasons. “For more than four years I have given my best effort to create the climate of change needed to support a winning football program here at Nicholls," Stubbs said in a statement. "During the past year I have been diagnosed with major health issues, and I know that now is the time to step aside and focus my efforts on my health.”[3]
Stubbs was born on September 2, 1955, in Charleston, South Carolina. Stubbs worked as a graduate assistant under LaVell Edwards at BYU in the Cougars' mid-1980s heyday. He holds a Master of Physical Education degree from BYU.
In the early 1980s, he served as athletic director and head football coach for Sea Island Academy (now Charleston Collegiate School). In 1985, he moved onto his first full-time assistant job at Oregon State. From 1991 to 1993, he coached at Boiling Springs High School, then jumped to the University of Memphis in 1994, then the University of Tennessee, Martin in 1995. He was with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas for 1996–1997, the University of Alabama for the 1998–2000 seasons, and the University of Tulsa from 2002 to 2006. He was at the University of Louisville for 2007 and University of Central Missouri for 2008–2009. He landed his first head coaching job at Nicholls State on January 5, 2010.
Stubbs has published three books: Wide Open Football, Developing an Explosive Offense, and 101 Playmakers and Special Plays.
He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
