Edwin Mulitalo

Edwin Mulitalo is a college football coach and former professional football player. He was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the fourth round of the 1999 NFL Draft. He was with the Ravens through the 2006 season and is a Super Bowl champion in Super Bowl XXXV.

Mulitalo played for the Detroit Lions for the 2007 and 2008 seasons, but due to injuries, he was released at the end of the 2008 season.

He moved his family from Herriman, Utah, to the Western Samoan island of Upolu in 2012. He coached the first football team at St. Joseph’s College High School. “There are only a few limited ways for native Samoans to ever get off the islands. They can join the military or become fishermen, he says. Sports is another path, but aspiring football players have to join relatives in American Samoa or the states to have a shot at even making the junior college ranks.”[1]

They stayed until 2015, when he returned to Utah and helped coach Southern Utah University to a Big Sky Conference championship.[2]

In 2018, he became head football coach at Southern Virginia University. He had joined SVU in 2016 and served as defensive line coach and defensive coordinator before he was named head coach.

Mulitalo was born in Daly City, California, and played for Ricks College and the University of Arizona. At Jefferson High School, he helped win a conference title, and at the University of Arizona, he was part of the 1998 Holiday Bowl victory.

He served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Idaho.
