Anthony C. Lund

Anthony Canute Lund served as director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir from 1916 to his death on June 11, 1935. He directed the choir in its first recordings on the Victor label.

He had previously served as the head of the Brigham Young University School of Music. He was on the faculty of the Utah Conservatory and the McCune School of Music. He was a composer of both popular and sacred music.

Lund was born on February 25, 1871, in Ephraim, Utah Territory. He was the son of Church leader Anthon H. Lund. He began receiving organ lessons at eight years old and became a choir director at the age of 18. He graduated from the Brigham Young Academy and was valedictorian of his class. He went on to study at the Royal Conservatory in Leipzig, Germany. He also studied in London, England, and Paris, France.

He was 25 years old—the youngest member—when he was elected to the Utah Constitutional Convention, which allowed Utah Territory to become a state.

Lund was married to Cornelia Sorenson, and they had six children.
