Carl W. Buehner

Carl W. Buehner served as second counselor to Joseph L. Wirthlin in the Presiding Bishopric of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from April 6, 1952, to September 30, 1961. He served in several other capacities in the Church, including second assistant in the general superintendency of the Young Men’s Mutual Improvement Association from September 30, 1961, until 1967. Prior to his call as a General Authority, he served as a bishop, high councilor, counselor in a stake presidency, and as stake president. Later he served as a regional representative of the Twelve. He also served as a member of the Church Welfare Committee and was president of the Great Salt Lake Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He was also awarded the Silver Beaver for his contribution the Boy Scouts.

Buehner ran for governor of the State of Utah in 1968, but was defeated by the incumbent, Calvin L. Rampton.

Buehner was born on December 27, 1898, in Stuttgart, Germany. His family immigrated to Salt Lake City, Utah, when he was a child. He graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology (Chicago) and was involved in a few family owned businesses.

He and his wife, Lucille Thurman, were the parents of four children. He died on November 11, 1974.
