Kristen M. Oaks
Kristen McMain Oaks is the wife of Dallin H. Oaks, First Counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She married him in 2000 when he was serving as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. She was in her 50s when she married, and has spoken often about the challenges of being single. She is the author of A Single Voice.
Sister Oaks spent much of her life teaching. She earned a bachelor's degree in English, a master's degree in special education (both from the University of Utah), and a doctorate degree in curriculum and instruction from Brigham Young University. She is a former educational consultant in the publishing industry, instructing teachers and supervisors both nationally and internationally. She was also a Visiting Assistant Professor at BYU.
As a young woman, she served a full-time mission to Japan. After marrying President Oaks, she taught and trained auxiliaries in the Philippines for two years while he served as area president.
Sister Oaks currently serves on the board of trustees of the Deseret International Foundation and the Primary Children's Hospital.
She is the daughter of Dr. William A. and Margaret McMain of Salt Lake City.
