Dick Felt

Richard “Dick” George Felt was an American football defensive back who played professionally in the American Football League (AFL) for the New York Titans and the Boston Patriots. He scored the winning touchdown for the Titans against the Buffalo Bills in the Thanksgiving Day game of November 23, 1961. Felt was a two-time AFL All-Star selection and a three-time first-team All AFL.

In 1967, he was hired as an assistant football coach at BYU. When LaVell Edwards became head coach in 1972, Felt became the defensive coordinator and secondary coach. Later he became the assistant head coach. For the last 5 years of his 27-year career at BYU, he was involved with athletic administration and helped organize the BYU Varsity Club.

He was inducted into the BYU Cougar Hall of Fame, Utah Sports Hall of Fame, and was honored by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame Utah Chapter for his Outstanding Contribution to Amateur Football.

Felt was born on March 4, 1933, in Lehi, Utah. He lettered in five different sports while attending Lehi High School. He played college football at Brigham Young University.

Felt earned a degree in business and marketing and a master’s degree in physical education from BYU. He also served in the Air Force, stationed at Bolling Air Force Base. He also played football for their service team. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He died on November 17, 2012, in Provo, Utah. He and his wife, Dayleen, had four children.
