Dale A. Whitman

Dale A. Whitman is a lawyer and law professor. Before his retirement in 2007, he was the James E. Campbell Professor of Law at the University of Missouri. He is currently an adjunct professor of law at Arizona State University and serves on the Joint Editorial Board for Real Property Acts of the Uniform Law Commission.

He received his Bachelor of Educational Studies degree in electrical engineering from Brigham Young University (BYU) in 1963 and his LL.B. law degree from Duke University in 1966. He practiced law for a short time with the firm of O'Melveny & Myers, LLP in Los Angeles, CA.

Whitman began his academic career at the University of North Carolina. In 1973, he was one of the founding faculty of the J. Reuben Clark Law School at BYU.

He taught at the University of Washington in 1978, where he also served as associate dean. He also taught at the University of Florida and Washington University. He was a visiting professor at the University of Arkansas School of Law.

Whitman's principal fields of interest are property and real estate finance. He is a co-author numerous articles and of five books in these areas, including Real Estate Transfer, Finance, and Development, Cases and Materials; The Law of Property; Contemporary Property; and Real Estate Finance Law.
