W. Douglas Shumway

W. Douglas Shumway was sustained as a member of the Second Quorum of the Seventy and General Authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in April 2003. He was released in 2009.

Shumway was born on May 8, 1940, in St. Johns, Arizona. He served a full-time mission for the Church in Uruguay and then obtained his bachelor’s degree in business management from Brigham Young University. He was self-employed for almost forty years as owner of Whiting Brothers Investment Company.

He has served in the Church in various capacities, including bishop, stake mission president, and counselor in a stake presidency. He presided over the Bolivia Santa Cruz Mission from 1998 to 2001.

He and his wife, Dixie, are the parents of eight children.
