Richard Alldridge
Richard Alldridge was a hymn writer and wrote hymns for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Two of his hymns were published in the 1985 Hymns of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: “Lord, Accept Our True Devotion” (#107) and “We’ll Sing All Hail to Jesus’ Name” (#182)
Five of Alldridge’s hymns were published in the Church’s 1840 Manchester Hymnal, which included the two included in the 1985 hymn book. He contributed other hymns to Church periodicals and hymnals.
Alldridge was born on May 3, 1815, in Floore, Northamptonshire, England, and worked as a shoemaker near Birmingham. After his baptism in 1847, he served several years as a missionary in England. He was called to preside over Warwickshire in 1857 and served until he and his wife and children immigrated to Utah Territory in 1861. He died in Cedar City, Utah, on February 14, 1896.
