Henry A. Tuckett

Henry A. Tuckett was a poet and lyricist. He pursued music when not working as a candy maker. As of 1888 Tuckett was a vocal music instructor on the faculty of the University of Deseret (later the University of Utah). He wrote the music to "Choose the Right" (#239) and "We Are Sowing" (#216), which were included in the 1985 Hymns of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He composed, arranged, and wrote words to several other hymns.

Tuckett also conducted a choir in the 12th Ward in downtown Salt Lake City, in which ward he also served as superintendent of the Sunday School. He also served a mission to the Southern States Mission in 1885 and Great Britain from 1894 to 1896.

In 1890, Tuckett was an unsuccessful candidate for Salt Lake City council.

He was born on December 22, 1852, in St. Louis, Missouri. His parents, Henry Tuckett and Mary Mercy Westwood converted to the gospel in Great Britain and immigrated to be with the Saints. Tuckett passed away on January 16, 1918. He was married to Agnes Sproul.
