Steven C. Harper is a professor of church history and doctrine at Brigham Young University. He is also editor in chief of BYU Studies Quarterly (since 2019). Before joining the faculty at BYU, he taught history and religion at BYU-Hawaii from 2000 to 2001.
Harper was a historian for the Church History Department of The Church of Jesus of Latter-day Saints. He also served as an editor of The Joseph Smith Papers working on volumes in the Revelations and Translations Series and the Documents Series.
He holds a PhD in early American history from Lehigh University and earned a master’s degree in American history from Utah State University. He earned his bachelor’s degree in history from BYU.
