Dear John

An unofficial, but commonly used term used to refer to when a male missionary receives a letter from a girl back home desiring to break off a relationship. The term is often used when a male is stationed overseas serving in the military. A less common term known as a Dear Jane refers to when a similar experience happens to a sister missionary.
