Jennifer Rockwood
Jennifer Rockwood is the Women's Soccer Head Coach at Brigham Young University.
After graduating from the Marriott School at BYU in 1989, she became the BYU soccer club team coach. She led the club to two Western National Collegiate Club soccer Association (NCCSA) Championships in 1993 and 1994. In 1995, BYU officially recognized women's soccer as an NCAA sport and Rockwood became the inaugural head coach of the NCAA Division/BYU Women's Soccer program.
In her 30 years as head coach, the Cougars have made the NCAA tournament 21 times. In the October 19, 2013, match against the San Francisco Dons, Rockwood would collected her 300th win. In 2003 and 2012, the team was included in the NCAA's Elite 8. In 2021 Rockwood led the Cougars to their first ever College Cup. She has coached 20 All-Americans and 16 Academic All-Americans.
She has many accolades, including four-time WCC Coach of the Year, two-time MWC Coach of the Year, two-time West Region Coach of the Year, and in 1996 was WAC Coach of the Year.[1]
Rockwood was born in September 1966 in Provo, Utah, and raised in Lake Oswego, Oregon. In her family she was the older sister to four younger brothers. She played soccer and frequently played basketball, track, and softball.
Rockwood was offered a basketball scholarship at Ricks College, which she accepted in the fall of 1984, but her one true desire was soccer. After participating in basketball in the Fall-winter of 1984–85, Rockwood transferred and enrolled at Brigham Young University. She knew she didn't have the height to make the basketball team and instead took a place with the Cougars club team from 1985 to 1988. She earned a bachelor's degree in business management with an emphasis in finance. "During her junior and senior years, she assisted the club soccer team behind the scenes in areas such as scheduling and budgeting, gaining a preliminary sense of the ins and outs of BYU sports administration."[2]
Before her career at BYU, she taught at Waterford School and Meridian, both private schools.
