Gary Crowton
Gary Crowton is an American football coach. He is offensive coordinator at Pine View High School in St. George, Utah. He was the first Brigham Young University head football coach after the LaVell Edwards era. His BYU career started with a twelve-game winning streak, however, the team lost the final two games of the season. The next three seasons were also losing seasons with only 14 winning games. He was forced to resign after the 2004 season.
He went on to coaching as offensive coordinator at a number of colleges: 2005–2006 at University of Oregon, 2007–2010 at Louisiana State University, 2011 at University of Maryland, 2014–2015 at Southern Utah University, 2016–2017 at Stephen F. Austin State University. From 2012 to 2013 he was offensive coordinator with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, a Canadian professional team. In the 2015 season, he was offensive consultant with Oregon State.
After graduating from high school in Orem, Utah, he played for Snow College and Colorado State. He earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education from BYU. Prior to his appointment at BYU, he was defensive back coach at Snow College in 1983, then from 1984 to 1986 he was offensive coordinator. For the 1987, he was offensive coordinator at Western Illinois University. From 1988 to 1990, he was offensive coordinator at the University of New Hampshire. He was quarterback coach from 1991 to 1993 for Boston College. He also coached at Georgia Tech, Louisiana Tech (where he was head coach from 1996 to 1998). He was offensive coordinator for the NFL team the Chicago Bears for the 1999–2000 seasons.
Crowton and his wife, Maren, are the parents of seven children. He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
