Hal Gregersen
Hal Gregersen is senior lecturer in leadership and innovation at the MIT Sloan School of Management and executive director at the MIT Leadership Center. His expertise is in innovative leadership—how leaders in business, government, and society discover provocative new ideas, develop the human and organizational capacity to realize those ideas, and ultimately deliver positive, powerful results.
He created Catalytic Questioning methodology, a five-step process to help individuals be innovative thinkers and doers in their professional and personal lives. He also founded The 4-24 Project, an initiative to rekindle the power of asking the right questions in adults so they can pass crucial creativity skills onto the next generation. He regularly delivers keynote addresses and motivational executive seminars.
He is coauthor with Clayton Christensen and Jeff Dyer of The Innovator’s DNA: Mastering the Five Skills of Disruptive Innovators. With them, he partnered with the Apollo Group and its subsidiary University of Phoenix to contribute to the breakthrough online learning experience Innovator’s Accelerator. He is the coauthor of other books, including Global Assignments: Successfully Expatriating and Repatriating International Managers and It Starts with One: Changing Individuals Changes Organizations.
Gregersen was among the five Brigham Young University alumni who were named to the 2015 Thinkers50 list (including Christensen, Dave Ulrich, Liz Wiseman, and Whitney Johnson. He earned a master’s degree in organizational behavior from BYU and was the Donald Staheli Professor of Global Leadership and Strategy at BYU, and a visiting professor at the London Business School, the Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College, and the Helsinki School of Economics.
He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and his wife live in Boston.
