David Cross Campo is an American football coach and former player. He is known for his stint as the head coach for the Dallas Cowboys from 2002–2002 and has been assistant coach with NFL teams Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars. He has coached on the college level with several teams, including (as assistant coach) Albany, Bridgeport, Pittsburgh, Oregon State, and Weber State. At Weber, he converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. 'It took a couple sets of missionaries. They finally got me,' Campo said.[1]

He also coached at his alma mater, Central Connecticut State. He was defensive backs coach at Washington State, Boise State, Iowa State, Syracuse, and University of Miami. At the University of Kansas, he was defensive backs coach and defensive coordinator. From 2018 to 2019, he was a consultant with USC.

He was born on July 18, 1947, in Connecticut. He lettered in football and baseball in high school and went on to play for Central Connecticut State in both football, where he played defensive back, and baseball, where he played shortstop.

In 1999, Campo was awarded an honorary doctoral degree from his alma mater. Of more than 50 such degrees awarded by CCSU, Campo's remains the only one titled Doctor of Health and Physical Education.

He and his wife, Kay, are the parents of six children.
