Joe Pack: Mormon Athlete

Joe Pack is an Olympic silver medalist, having placed second in men’s aerials (freestyle skiing) at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. He also was awarded two bronze medals at the 2001 and 1999 World Championships. He retired from skiing after the 2006 Winter Games.

Pack was born in 1978 in Eugene, Oregon. He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. During high school in Park City, Utah, he played football and soccer and added golf to his passion for mountain biking and motocross. He entered ski competition as a ski jumper in New Hampshire before his family moved to Park City. There he focused on aerials and won a Junior World Championship title in 1996. He missed the 1998 Olympics due to a knee injury.

After his retirement from skiing, he completed the PGA golf management program and began working as an assistant professional at the Turtle Bay Resort on the north shore of Oahu. He is currently the head pro.
