Stephanie Rovetti
Stephanie Rovetti is an Olympic medalist following Team USA’s women’s rugby sevens bronze medal win at the 2024 Paris Olympic games. Utahn Alex Sedrick scored the winning try during the women's bronze medal Rugby Sevens match between the United States and Australia. It’s the first United States Olympic medal in rugby since the American men’s 15s team won gold in 1924, and the first for America in Olympic rugby sevens competition since the sport was introduced to the Olympics in 2016.
Rovetti, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a former women’s basketball player at [[Brigham Young University]. Following her college graduation with a bachelor’s degree in public health (and a master’s degree in public administration from Fresno State), Steph took an operations role on staff at the University of San Diego in 2016. She played rugby in San Diego with the San Diego Surfers club, and the US national team invited her to train with them and take part in international tours. She reached a point where she had to decide between rugby and coaching basketball.
Steph was born on October 2, 1991, in Reno, Nevada. During high school, she won Nevada Runner of the Year honors in 2008 and was also a Northern Nevada High School Player of the Year in 2010. At BYU she helped the team to a Sweet 16 appearance.
